This Clinical Update in Perioperative Medicine was originally delivered on May 12, 2023 at the SGIM23 Annual Meeting in Denver.

This session focuses on key areas within perioperative and consultaative medicine including best use of perioperative testing, minimizing risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, assessing pulmonary risk and/or failty, "prehab", prevention and management of anemia and other aspects of perioperative care.  Each presenter covers 3-4 of the most relevant publications in the past year, and most presented within the context of a patient care scenario with practical advice on how to apply the paper's findings to patient care.

Publications have been identified through a comprehensive literature review and authors will select the most important papers through discussion and voting. Papers are rated base on the rigor of their study design, strength of evidence, and likelihood of immediately changing clinical practice.

Authors:  K.Johnson, VA Puget Sound Health Care System; M. Fang, Penn Medicine; K. Sahai, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston School of Medicine; E. Kuperman, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.
