This Clinical Update in Addiction Medicine was originally delivered on May 11, 2023 at the SGIM23 Annual Meeting in Denver.

Deaths from drug overdose surpassed 100,000 in a 12-month period in the United States for the first time in 2021, representing a 15% increase from the prior year.  Presenters have critically reviewed and presented practice-changing, peer-reviewed literature from the past year that can guide general internists as they are for patients with substance use disorders.  Presenters apply a case-based approach to discuss the implications to clinical practice and facilitate audience engagement.
