Advocating for Equity with Civic Engagement

This webinar, brought to you by the SGIM Health Equity Commission, was originally recorded on October 24, 2022.

In addition to low-income populations and other marginalized communities, doctors tend to vote less often than the general population.

Poverty, systemic racism and economic disparities adversely impact the ability of the average American to vote.  The 2020 pandemic and presidential election cycle, along with previous elections, demonstrates the undeniable connection between civic engagement and health outcomes.  It is pivotal that medical trainees, generalists, and community leaders understand how civic engagement can improve the health of our patients and communities.

Stella Safo, MD, MPH, Founder of Just Equity for Health, a health care improvement company that aims to reimagine how we deliver equitable care in medicine, will share her lessons learned and encouragement to continue to be engaged.  You will hear why Dr. Safo, in 2020, was named one of Modern Healthcare's top minority clinicians to watch.  She also serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Mount Sinai where she holds dual appointments in Medicine and Medical Education.

FREE to SGIM Members and Non-Members through Election Day, November 8th.
After that Non-Members can purchase access to the recording for only $5.00.
